The 21-element, 15-group optical design includes ED, Super HR and HR glass, while ZERO coating helps reduce flare and ghosting. Optical image stabilisation compensates for up to three stops of camera shake to support handheld shooting.

A 1.3m minimum focus distance adds flexibility for nature details, and the removable tripod collar provides balanced support when working from a tripod. The lens accepts 72mm filters.
