The Sigma 135mm f/1.4 DG DN Art is a benchmark portrait and short telephoto prime for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, combining one of the most effective focal lengths for subject isolation with an f/1.4 maximum aperture that produces background rendering of extraordinary quality. The 135mm perspective compresses space in a way that flatters human subjects, and at f/1.4 the transition from sharp to soft is so gradual and smooth that subjects appear to float against their environment — a characteristic that defines the appeal of this lens for wedding, fashion, editorial, and studio photographers worldwide.
The optical formula is constructed from 17 elements in 13 groups, incorporating two aspherical elements and four FLD (F Low Dispersion) elements — Sigma's highest-grade glass, equivalent in performance to fluorite — that work together to suppress chromatic aberration, colour fringing, and spherical aberration from f/1.4 through the full aperture range. A 13-bladed rounded diaphragm produces near-perfectly circular bokeh highlights at every aperture, and Super Multi-Layer Coating optimises backlight resistance to minimise flare and ghosting when shooting into the light. Lens elements are arranged specifically to reduce focus breathing, making this lens equally capable as a cinema and broadcast optic.
Autofocus is driven by Sigma's dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) system — electromagnetic linear motors that operate without gears, producing ultra-fast, near-silent focus movement that responds instantly to the subject-recognition systems of Sony Alpha bodies. A water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element protects against the elements and makes cleaning straightforward in field conditions, and the internal construction shields all optical elements from dust and moisture ingress.
