The Sigma 14mm f/1.4 DG DN Art is a lens that did not exist before Sigma made it: the world's first 14mm f/1.4 prime for full-frame mirrorless cameras, engineered specifically for astrophotography but equally exceptional for architecture, landscape, and creative ultra-wide work. At 14mm and f/1.4, it gathers more light than any competing ultra-wide prime, making it the definitive tool for capturing the Milky Way, star trails, and deep-sky objects with breathtaking sharpness and minimal noise at the high ISOs that night sky photography demands.
The optical formula is Sigma's most ambitious for an ultra-wide prime, constructed to maintain the pin-sharp star rendering at the corners of the frame that separates a true astrophotography lens from a general-purpose wide angle. Point sources of light — stars — are the most unforgiving test of any lens, as even minor field curvature, coma, or astigmatism renders them as smears, wings, or artefacts rather than the tight, circular points that define a successful astro image. Sigma's Art Line optical design, featuring SLD (Special Low Dispersion) and aspherical elements, addresses all of these aberrations to deliver stars that remain tack-sharp point sources from centre to the extreme corners at f/1.4.
For daytime applications, the lens is equally compelling. The 14mm field of view captures sweeping architectural interiors and exteriors, dramatic landscape vistas, and environmental context that no standard wide-angle can match. HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) autofocus provides fast, near-silent focusing for both still and video applications, and the lens barrel incorporates a petal-type lens hood designed to minimise light pollution when shooting in the field — a detail that reflects how seriously Sigma has considered the astrophotographer's workflow in every aspect of this product's design.
